Followup to Cat Hollow Burglaries
Just a quick follow-up to this post to say that it looks they caught at least one of the guys.
Deputies Search for Armed Burglars… in my backyard!
As I was sitting in my home office around 1:30 this morning, a car screamed past my window seconds before I heard it slam into my neighbors’ cars. When I saw the police cars fly past at about the same time, I knew this was no ordinary late night car crash.

So Newsweek has posted their latest list of top high schools in the country. You can filter by state (e.g. Texas) on the site, but if you’re like me, you’re only interested in the schools in the Austin metro area.*

The bottom one is the way I went home yesterday. Westlake Dr. was actually a bit disappointing (mostly due to traffic but also because the “Radar Enforced” Speed Limit signs made me paranoid), but Spicewood Springs Rd. more than made up for it.
How I found my new job (copied from IM)
Fred: Did you feel like your time was getting short or just being pro-active?
Erik: Neither, really.
Erik: Back in January, this caught my attention when it showed up in Google Reader: http://geekaustin.org/2008/01/23/pluck-qa-engineer/
Erik: Obviously, it didn’t apply to me but I was highly amused nonetheless.
Erik: Then, in February, this showed up in the GeekAustin RSS feed: http://geekaustin.org/2008/02/19/smart-c-developer-wanted-to-get-me-free-lunch/
Erik: I honestly wasn’t looking at all (I prefer to stay at a company for a minimum of 1 year; I’ve been here 9 months) but I figured any company that would post a job listing like that must be pretty cool and hey, free lunch!
Erik: Ultimately, the person who got my resume thought I was a better fit in professional services than in engineering and I admit they were right.
Erik: The rest, as they say, is history.
Note: Minor edits have been made for clarity and to protect the innocent.

New GWJ thread: DMN releases never-seen-before materials related to the JFK assassination.
I just created a new thread over at Gamers With Jobs.
Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins announced this week that documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy were found in a little-known vault in his office. He said his intention was to release them to the public. The documents were compiled by […]

Good to know.
[I]t is “against the law in Texas to leave your keys in the ignition or your vehicle engine running. If convicted, you can be fined up to $200.”
